CEMENT FOUNDATION
GAVE MANLY STRENGTH

Glowing tributes to the lifetime support to Manly Leagues Club and the Sea Eagles continue for Gordon Willoughby a year after his passing at aged 80.
Gordon "Cement" Willoughby will always be a legend to both the licensed and football clubs. He played in the first season that Manly entered the competition and was one of the club's early internationals. He was a foundation director of the Leagues Club where he served for a long period as a director.
His close friend of more than 60 years, Manly godfather Ken Arthurson, says Gordon Willoughby was one of a kind. "He was a fearless player - big, strong and fast and the tougher the game the more he liked it," Arthurson said.
"His desire to win and work hard had a marked effect on Manly as a young club looking for a work ethic and i believe what we are today as a club is a direct result of men like Gordon Willoughby who set the standard for others to follow. "Gordon played his early football for North Sydney but couldn't wait to make his imprint for Manly when the club was formed and he is very much part of our history.
"He was a wonderful administrator for the Sea Eagles and an enthusiastic Board member of the licensed club. "Gordon also made his mark at the NSW Rugby League where he became a life member after years of representing Manly Warringah in Phillip Street. "In years to come history will record what a great man Gordon Willoughby was for the two clubs to which he gave so much of his life," Mr Arthurson said.
